VANDEN PLAS arose from the demise of two bands, THE BARSTARDS and EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. THE BARSTARDS supplied singer/guitarist David Wilson and drummer Jon Clark while EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN donated their guitarist and singer Graheme Wilson.
The first meeting of this trio was in 1987, when Graheme came along to watch THE BARSTARDS rehearsing but, contrary to popular belief, he didn't play guitar that day, in fact he played drums while Jon switched to piano!
In 1991, Jon contacted David to ask for help in recording a song he'd written called Perfect Paula. David suggested they ask Graheme to produce and play guitar*.
Later that same year David switched to bass guitar and rehearsals began for their first tour playing now classic VP tunes, I Wanna Make Love to You, Winter Sun and On the Road. The tour ended in Portsmouth playing top local venues The Wedgewood Rooms and The Pyramids.
The name VANDEN PLAS (pronounced VAN DEN PLAR) means state of the art with luxurious refinements and no expense spared, the ideal description for the quality VANDEN PLAS strive for in their songwriting, production and live shows.
The band split in 1996 but have now signed a deal with YEW TREE MUSIC. The deal includes a best of compilation and a new album. This new album, «TERMS AND CONDITIONS» is due in the spring of 2009
*This track has recently been remixed with additional vocals by David.

It was the 10th of June 1996 when Jon, Graheme and David last played together, in a quiet rehearsal room, near a deserted railway station. At the time, none of them realised that Vanden Plas was coming to the end of the line and indeed there were plans to record in the August of that year. So, with rumours of a reunion and possible new album doing the rounds on several fan forums, I arranged to speak to the bass player & singer David Wilson. David released his second solo album People Watching in May 2008 and while many of the tracks are reminiscent of the Vanden Plas sound, three songs in particular stand out as they feature Jon Clark on drums.
