Presenting Our Artists

It was the 10th of June 1996 when Jon, Graheme and David last played together, in a quiet rehearsal room, near a deserted railway station. At the time, none of them realised that Vanden Plas was coming to the end of the line and indeed there were plans to record in the August of that year. So, with rumours of a reunion and possible new album doing the rounds on several fan forums, I arranged to speak to the bass player & singer David Wilson. David released his second solo album People Watching in May 2008 and while many of the tracks are reminiscent of the Vanden Plas sound, three songs in particular stand out as they feature Jon Clark on drums.
Graheme tells me that he is working in the studio on some new tracks. He is trying out various guitar open tunings. He has worked his way through open 'G' and open 'D' and is now exploring the possibilities of more exotic tunings like open 'F#m' and 'Fm'.
We have heard that three of the earlier EP cassette releases are being remastered and bonus tracks that are remixed and remade new versions of the originals songs are to be included to make full CD releases. David Wilson has already remixed and made a version of 'Sailway' which originally appeared on the 1989 release entitled 'Cartoon'.
We are eagerly awaiting news of two other CD's 'Cross That Bridge' (CTB). Watch this space - or one very close to it for this much anticipated release. Another long awaited CD is 'Year of Return' (YOR).

The publicity shy quartet were last seen heading for the studio carrying all manner of wyrd and wonderful home made electronic noise makers. We have heard of circuit bending but these were hammered during construction. Whatever they are planning you will hear the magnificent electronic noise on this site before any other in the known and unknown universe.
The Q-Jumpers are also ensconsed in their own studio working on their debut album following the departure of bass player Alice Tait. It was due to musical differences we hear, the band say that there are no plans to replace her at this or any other stage. Marco della Perelli , four string department manager for Missing Ferret has been applying his bass skills to the QJ's recording project - a single for release on the internet.
Yew Tree Music new boys and girls are the clangerous Cone - purveyors of of curious ring modulated scrambled tones and electronic squeaks coupled with acoustic instruments. Even so Cone have something in common with ABBA. What is it? Well Cone comes from the band members first names - just like ABBA!
Cone are still holding down regular jobs as well as playing music. There are the cautious types. Accountant Colin Murphy on bass, bricklayer Owen Douglas plays guitar, gas fitter Nick Smith is the drummer and window dresser Eve Grimes plays keys. Cone are not out to change the world only to make its music less like an accountants balance sheet and its words less like the lyric writing equivalent of painting by numbers.
